Uganda Tourism Board(UTB) is to embark on a countrywide grading and categorising exercise of hotel and accommodation facilities. This came to public notice through the different social media platforms of Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) a few days ago.
The public notice made by UTB says, “the grading and classification exercise will be crowned by the awarding of star ratings to facilities found compliant with the east Africa community minimum standards. This is therefore a call to all accommodation and facility owners and managers to register and get licensed by UTB as required and get ready for a participation.”
“As a member of the east African community, Uganda subscribes to the east African grading and classification criteria, a system denoted by stars ranging from one to five.”
Uganda has innumerable hotels and accommodation facilities across the country. These facilities are majorly found in popular cities like Kampala, Mbale, Kasese, Mbarara, Gulu, Masaka, Soroti, Jinja and border towns like Katuna, Malaba, Mutukula and also in the different areas where the different tourist sites like National parks are found.
In Uganda, we have all sorts of accommodation types like hotels, motels, rental apartments, safari lodges, guesthouses and condominiums. The hotels are mainly found in the major cities like kampala, gulu, Masaka, Mbarara, Arua, Soroti, Mbale and Jinja. There are countable five star hotels and numerous one to three star hotels in these cities.
The safari lodges and guesthouses are majorly found in the national parks of Uganda. The types of accommodations are eco based and mainly classified from Budget, mid range and luxury facilities.
The rental apartments and condominiums are dominantly situated in places where foreign residents run their errands like Kampala, Jinja and Entebbe.
The hotel industry is still young but very promising. The services and accommodation rooms provided are relatively great and the treatment of guests is world class. The grading and rating of the hotels and accommodation facilities countrywide will enable them to work towards their utmost goals. They would try to improve their services so that they can get better ratings. And as we all know the higher the rating, the more the guests will book a certain accommodation facility or hotel.
