Uganda to Set up More Museums

Uganda joined the rest of the world to celebrate the international museum day under the theme of “new approaches”

The celebrations were highlighted with the visiting of different private and national museum establishments with an intention of enticing administrators to come up with new approaches of attracting the public as stipulated by this year’s international theme.

Samuel Kizaalwa the assistant for museum and monuments said there is need for advanced approaches in packaging and acquisition of new collections to attract the public. He further stated that they have so far registered 30 private museum sites and four national ones that are undergoing renovation and expansion to cope up with current public demand.

He said the Uganda museum at Kitante, the oldest national museum which was constructed in 1954 is undergoing renovation and new items are being introduced and also expansion is underway.

He also stated that the Soroti museum that is established on five acres is almost being completed and also the one in Kabale along Kisoro road and one in Moroto are almost finished.

Kizaalwa also praised the Anglican Church, mainly the Mengo archdeaconry headquarters in kibuye and Uganda martyrs- Namugongo for spearheading the setting up of church museums to enable the future and young generation captivate the root cores of their faith.

The Archdeacon of Mengo Ven. John Gitta Kavuma said, “The booming tourism in Uganda calls for government intervention to support those who have managed to come up with private museums.
